Student Council

Western High School Student Council

“Caring about the Student’s Voice”

written by WHS Alumni Katie Miller

Student Council, led by Mr. Hamilton, holds student elections each year in grades 7th-12th. The positions that are “up for grabs”  include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and three Class Representatives. Last year, Student Council conducted many activities. These activities included taking a trip to the Youth Leadership Association in Columbus for three days, holding activities around the school, and hiking part of the Buckeye Trail.

I believe the student council motto should be “To make Western Great”  because we want each child to have the best education they possibly can, and by teaching them how the government works through holding elections, and going to Leadership conferences, it really gives us all a taste of that.  Mr. Hamilton explained, “Student Council adopted a section of the Buckeye Trail. The Buckeye Trail is a 1400 mile trail that loops the state, and last May, the Student Council cleaned up a two mile section of it. This year, the Student Council will continue to maintain that two miles, and we will also build a campsite on school grounds for through hikers.”
