Christmas

The History Of Christmas

Christmas is a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas was not the first major Christian holiday. The first major Christian holiday was originally Easter. Christmas wasn't a thing until in third-century Rome  citizens celebrated the winter solstice.  The mid- December holiday was  not celebrated exactly on December 25th  but there are a couple of different beliefs about why that date was adopted by Christians to celebrate Jesus Christ's birth.  For some while Americans didn't celebrate Christmas at all.  They wanted to separate themselves apart from Great Britain and show some reverence to the Bible. It wasn't until 1870 when  American Christians began recognizing December 25th as the real birth date of Christ, and began celebrating by showing their appreciation by throwing huge town parties involving a feast and small gifts.
