National Honor Society
written by WHS Alumni Katie Miller
The National Honor Society is an organization established to recognize high school students who excel not only in academics but also in other aspects of life. This year’s National Honor Society is advised by Western High School’s guidance counselor, Mrs. Long. This honorable organization conducts various activities throughout the school year including assisting with the Veteran’s Day breakfast and assembly that is held each year. In addition, members of the National Honor Society assist with graduation, and at the end of the year, Mrs. Gast, Mrs. Long, and Mr. Brewster take the members to Kings Island.
In order to obtain membership into the National Honor Society, students must have a GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.25 or higher, must be a junior or senior, and must excel in the four attributes that the organization highly regards: Character, Scholarship, Service, and Leadership.
In November, the National Honor Society will host the 2019-2020 inductions.
In addition to a wide variety of benefits, becoming a member of the National Honor Society is a prestigious honor. As soon as a student enters their freshman year, they should work hard to become a National Honor Society member. In doing so, they will qualify for one of the most esteemed memberships a student can achieve, and most certainly, will never regret.
