WEGC have an athletic team that competes at the College Sport Regional Athletics Championships. This meet is for serious athletes who have a personal best for their favored events.
COMPETITION DATES:
- Fri 20th February School Athletic Carnival, Newtown Park
- Thu 19 March CSW Athletic Regionals - Newtown Park
- Sat 28-Sun 29 Mar North Island Athletic Champs- Papakura
- Fri 11- Sun 13 Dec NZSS National Athletic Champs - Wanganui

WEGC House/Sport carnival - students dress up in their house colours but wear athletic gear. When representing WEGC at Regionals the students will wear a WEGC vest/ PE top and own plain black athletic shorts.COST:Entry fee applies for Regionals, North Island Secondary Schools and NZ Secondary Schools.
COACHING:This sport is self coached. Most competitive students are affiliated with local running clubs. The college is able to recommend local clubs if required.
ATHLETIC OPPORTUNITIES:The WEGC Athletic House/Sport carnival is a combination of athletic events and fun inter-house activities. At this event we will select a Junior, Intermediate and Senior Champion.. The school athletic representative team for the CSW Regional Championships, will be selected from the times and distances (not placing) from the WEGC Athletic Day results.Regionals is a serious competitive athletic meet, from here the Wellington Secondary Schools athletic team is selected to compete at the North Island Athletic Championships. WEGC historically has about 10 girls each year who are selected for this. WEGC does not organise this travel/accommodation, it is the responsibility of the individual athlete.
