SKI RACING

By signing up for this sport you are not committing to the events. All it will mean is that you would like to go onto a mailing list so reminders are sent to you closer to the event. There is an opportunity to represent WEGC at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships. Please be aware that WEGC will not be taking a team, the college is happy to enter you but you will need to be the responsibility of your family.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY:

The school will enter one team of 5 experienced skiers in the North Island Secondary Schools Ski Championships held at Mt Ruapehu. Date 16-18 September, 2024.

NOTE – The 2023 ski trip was cancelled by the organisers and we hope they will be able to run a championship this year. If it goes ahead, the 2024 ski trip will be a parent-organised and run event. If a parent would like to be involved, please email the sports office at sport@wegc.school.nz.
COMPETITION DAY:

3-day event, racing through gates

Day 1. Individually timed

Day 2. Paired racing on a dual slalom course

Day 3. Back-up day

16th - 18th September 2024

LOCATION OF EVENTS:Turoa and Whakapapa ski fields

EXPECTED TIMES:

All day
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:Students to supply own gear, skis, poles, helmet, ski gear.

own accommodation, transport, food. Entry fee will include the ski pass.

ADULTS:This sporting opportunity is reliant on students going with their parents/caregiviers. The college will enter the student and please note it is a requirement of entry that volunteer parents assist with course marshalling.
