Claude Greene, Scotty Hall, Greg Sanchez, Sutton Schilawski
Claude Greene (Volunteer): Claude was a very active volunteer. He was President of the Imp Club from 1971-73. He was a major fundraiser; selling football program ads, club memberships, season tickets, and he helped plan the first car raffle in 1990 and personally sold 50-60 tickets each (of the 250-300 sold).
Claude sold ads for the football team and put out programs, arranged banquet speakers, worked the chain gang at home football games, obtained Beacon ambulance services for games, on the committee to plan Cooper Field (bleachers, field house, and press box). From 1974-98, Claude was the score board operator for all home football games.
Claude also officiated most of the home track meets and many Conference, Regional & State Championships as a Nationally Certified Official. From 1976-78, he operated the scoreboard for J.V. & Varsity games. Over the years, Claude contributed much to the baseball field and facilities improvements.
Scotty Hall (Class of '95): Scotty Hall was an outstanding student, citizen, and athlete at Cary High when he graduated in 1995. Cary High School won the NC 4A State basketball championship in his senior year. He was named MVP on that last game. He was named on the All East Regional and All Conference teams.He was honorable mention All-State, Wake County Player of the year, Most Outstanding Player of the UCB Holiday Tournament. Scotty also plated on the East-West All Star game.
In his junior hear, he averaged 12.7 and 7.1 assists per game. In his senior year, he averaged 21.4 points and 6.1 assists per game.
He was the leading scorer for 2 years at Louisburg College and also for 2 years at High Point University.
He has been the Assistant Basketball Coach at Cardinal Gibbons High School since 2001.
Gregory Sanchez (Class of '75): Greg was a 1975 graduate of Cary High School and captain of the school's first swim team. In high school, he was a two time NCHSAA State Champion in the 100-yard backstroke in 1974 and 1975, and won many AAU15-18 State titles in both backstroke and butterfly. His Raleigh Swimming Association 15-18 boys relays held numerous North Carolina State records.
Greg continued competitive swimming for UNC-Chapel Hill on a swimming scholarship. He had a successful college career including another NC Senior State record in the 200 Medley Relay.
After college, Greg began participating in both Masters Swimming and triathlons. His accomplishments include: Masters Swimming All American; 1996 Ironman World Championships; Triathlon All American. He still participates in triathlons.
Sutton Schilawski (Class of 2000): Athletically, Sutton participated in soccer, wrestling and track and field. As a junior, he was a member of the 1998 NCHSAA 4A State Men's Soccer State Champion team and a member of the State Wrestling Championship team. Sutton was actually a member of four State Wrestling Championship teams during his four years at Cary High.
Sutton's senior year was very fruitful. He was the captain and leading scorer on the soccer team as well as the Most Valuable Player. Sutton's success in soccer earned him the Extra Effort Award from Tom Suitor, Sports Anchor for WRAL. In wrestling, Sutton achieved an Individual State Championship in the 152 pound class to help his team earn a State Championship. Sutton placed fourth in the State 4A Track and Field meet in pole vault. He continues to hold the school record in men's pole vault. He also was awarded the Regional Athlete of the Year by the News and Observer. Sutton capped his senior year off by sharing the 2000 Male Most Valuable Athlete with his close friend, Carl Chaney.
He is a Cary Imp through and through. His mother and father are both in the Cary High Sports Hall of Fame. He holds the memories of Cary High School close to his heart and his blood is green!
