Lane, Edward: From 1963 yearbook.... Soft spoken, a man of action rather than words, he is in complete control of any situation. He is a familiar figure on campus - shortly cropped hair, graying slightly at the temples; rippled soled football practice shoes; the inevitable clipboard. As a teacher, he tries to make Cary teens become aware of their responsibilities as citizens in Problems of Democracy. Wearing his unsmiling, inscrutable expression, he sits on the right side of a driver training car and teaches respect for the road. His excellent coaching and dedication have made Cary the major football and track power in the Capital Area Conference.
Rood, Elizabeth
Stephens, Isabel Britt (Class of '42): Mrs. Stephens graduated from Cary High School in 1942 and went on to graduate from Meredith College. She enjoyed 42 years as a High School Chemistry teacher, beginning in Johnston County within the community of Cleveland, going on to Franklinton High School and then retiring after 20 years at Cary High School (1968-1988). Quoted in 1988, Mrs. Stephens said, "The ones I've taught, I feel that they are my children. To watch young people grow and mature and develop is one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can have."
