W. Wayne Boyd, Tommy Crowder, Jr., Steve Holleman, Natalie Lew Baker, M. Lee Mauney
Natalie E. Lew Baker (Class of '84): Natalie was arguably the best female athlete at Cary High School and may be the best ever.
She excelled in girls volleyball, cross country, basketball and her best sport, track. In 1983, she was Prep All-America Girl Athlete honorable mention. She is the only Cary girl athlete to receive this honor.
She was All-Conference in volleyball, basketball, and track. Natalie was also sports editor of the school yearbook and President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She was the most valuable girl athlete at Cary her senior year. Many conference and state coaches at other high schools considered Natalie the best all-round athlete to complete in high school athletics during the 1983-1984 season.
Lew Baker attended NC State University on a track scholarship. She later transferred to Texas University at Austin. Natalie received a degree in Exercise Physiology at East Carolina University. She participated in the United States Junior Olympic Heptathlon and set a new United States record in the seven different events where she became National Champion,
Natalie was picked to play in the East West All-Star basketball game and led the East Team to a victory.
Wilber "Wayne" Boyd (volunteer): Wayne was an outstanding volunteer for the Cary Community for over 25 years. His first work was spending many late nights welding the Cary High School bleachers on the football field. He was dedicated to helping get a first class football field. He spent many hours lining the football field and many more cutting the grass, sometimes during his lunch hour from work.
Wayne spent many hours cutting the grass on the baseball field as well. He also helped with any clean-up days on both fields. For over twenty years he has volunterred to work chains for all football games.
Thomas "Tommy" F. Crowder, Jr. (Class of '88): Crowder played football from 1985-1988, basketball from 1985-1987, and baseball from 1985-1988 and lettered in all three sports.
Accomplishments as a senior quarterback:
Selected as a Pre-Season Football All-Star by the Raleigh Times.
Picked as one of the top football players in the east by the News & Observer.
During the regular season, Tommy threw for 947 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Made the Cap Nine's 2,000 club by passing over 2,000 yards,
Named on the Cap Nine 4-A All Academic Team.
Selected for Greensboro's News & Record All-State checklist.
Voted Most Valuable Player for Cary High School in Football.
Named as best quarterback in the "Best of the timeson the football field for the Cap Nine" by the News & Observer.

Named Honorable Mention during the baseball season for the Cap Nine 4-A All Conference.
Stephen "Steve" Holleman (Class of '64): Steve played basketball for Cary High from 1962-1964. He was a coaches dream. He was the coach on the floor. He was the playmaker, setup and controlled the offense, scored, rebounded, led the fast beak, and was the catalyst on defense. Holleman was quick, strong, a good jumper and had a real good court sense. He was the team leader that everyone depended on. Steve was co-captain his senior year and led Cary to a 22-2 record, which included a berth in the State tournament.
Steve went on to a success playing career at Lenoir Rhyne College and returned to Cary High School in 1973 where he coached the basketball team for six years. He placed 3 teams in the NC State playoffs and his teams won over 72% of their games, never finishing lower than 3rd place in the conference. He was well respected as a college player and as a high school coach. His Cary teams were always well prepared and well coached.
Monty "Lee" Mauney (Class of '67): Contributing as an athlete, coach, administrator and volunteer, Lee Mauney embodies all of the criteria of the CHS Sports Hall of Fame.
While attending CHS, Lee participated and excelled in sports. In track, he was named All-Conference in 1965, 1966 and 1967, All-East in 1966 and 1967. As a football player, he was named All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-East in 1966. In 1967 he was named male athlete of the year.
As a student, Lee designed the Imp which is currently used as the CHS mascot. (His Imp is still being used in 2017.)
Lee returned to the world of CHS athletics as a volunteer while he was teaching at East Cary Middle School.
In 1985 Lee returned to CHS for good as a teacher and coach. He coached football from 1985-89 and track until 1995 (His 1991 team claimed the Eastern Regional Championships).
In 1989, Lee was named CHS Athletic director. Since then CHS teams have won four state championships and numerous other honors including team regional and conference champions, individual state, regional and conference champions, and had dozens of scholar athletes.
