The Patriots were a group of colonist who wanted to be free of England, they wanted independence.
Georgia was very loyal to the King. They were still getting help from and being protected by England.
During this time, many families were split. The younger generation were Patriots, while the older generation were Loyalist.
Another name for Patriots was Whigs.
Just like the name, Loyalist were loyal to England and the King.
Georgia was a young colony, one of the newest colonies. While under the leadership of the of Sir James Wright, Georgia flourished. We were doing well and growing. So many felt splitting from England would kill the colony.
Another name for Loyalist was Tories.
John Dooly and Elijah Clarke led a Georgia militia (a civilian army) at the Battle of Kettle Creek attacking 600 Loyalist. This led to a Patriot victory. Which helped the Patriots regain strength to continue on with the Revolutionary War.
Two heroes of the Battle of Kettle Creek were Elijah Clarke and Austin Dabney. Austin Dabney was a slave who fought in place of his master.
The Siege of Savannah was a failure for the Patriots but it gave a lot of heroes for the Patriots. The battle only lasted 90 minutes.
One of the heroes of the Siege of Savannah was Count Casmir Pulaski. One was Count Casimir Pulaski, a Polish man with rank, he was killed while leading a charge. Another hero who was also killed while attacking a British position was Sergeant William Jasper. Soldiers from Haiti also protected the allies saving hundreds of soldiers’ lives in the process.
