Adding words to pictures to help bring the thoughts into a more cognitive space.
Putting words into structures and creations.
This piece of work began as a narrative...a stream of consciousness blurted onto the page in the form of written words. Then as I was considering the message I painted over the words; dabbing, brushing, printing. Even though no one knew my story beneath, I knew it was there. It was never intended to be read, it served its purpose as it flip-flopped between conscious and unconscious.
This can take many and varied forms:
diary writing.
creative writing.
noticing a moment in time and wrapping words and language around it.
Drawing, painting, sticking.
If the activity has been without writing, I often offer the option of writing about the process and/or product at the end of the session, in order to draw deliberate focus back to our feelings.
