Sand play promotes:

• Gross motor skills as children dig, pour, sift, scoop, and clean up spills with brush and dustpan.

• Eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills as children learn to manipulate sand accessories.

• Social skills such as cooperation and communication.

• Mathematical skills as they explore capacity and volume

When combined with small world play, children (and adults) can play out scenarios helping them to make sense of their feelings, emotions, experiences and the world around them.
