The 1982-1983 Tennessee basketball team, led by coach Don DeVoe, finished the season with a record of 20-12, including a 9-9 record in SEC play. The team had an average of 69.5 points per game (137th of 274) and allowed an average of 65.7 points per game (95th of 274). Despite a mediocre season, the team managed to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament as the #8 seed in the Mideast region. In the first round, they narrowly defeated #9 seed Marquette by a score of 57-56. However, the team's tournament run was cut short in the second round, as they fell to #1 seed Louisville by a score of 70-57.
