During the 2010/2011 Lady Vols Basketball season, the team secured a program-best 25-game winning streak after defeating Stanford in overtime, with a final score of 82-72. Unfortunately, their winning streak came to an end on March 28, 2011, with a 73-59 loss to Notre Dame in the Dayton Regional Final.
However, the season was notable for other reasons as well. Pat Summitt, the legendary head coach of the Lady Vols, revealed at the age of 59 that she had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Despite her diagnosis, Summitt continued to lead the team for the 2011-12 season, which would ultimately be her last as the head coach of UT women's basketball.
Summitt's legacy as the greatest basketball coach at the University of Tennessee will continue to live on, not just through the countless wins and championships she achieved, but through the lives of the players and coaches she mentored and inspired. Her unwavering dedication to her players, her relentless pursuit of excellence, and her unwavering commitment to the game of basketball will forever be remembered and celebrated.
