Throughout this lab, I handled with a variety of glasswares (beaker, magnet, balance, glass funnel, hotplate, forceps, petri dish and watch glass) and a mixture of water with salt, sand, metal powder, and plastic beads.
The objective of this lab is to have the skills to identify the correct method for separation. The lab is complete together in a group of 5 people, including me. This taught me to work uniformly and collaboratively with friends. Notably, I got to practice being the Leader of the future as connected to MUIDS ESLOS as I was the one leading the group and dividing work equally among my group mates. The part that I did was introduction, flow chart (procedures/materials), and references. I felt very delighted to be working as a team where everyone contributes to their part well in order to meet the requirement in the rubric on the end. Besides, I became competent in the techniques of filtration, evaporation, handpicking, and magnetic separation as applied in the process of the lab. Nevertheless, it was trial-and-error before I finally identified the right technique to separate the mixture; thus, I got to be a Strategic Learner. In addition, I was able to master all lab safety and complete the main objective of this project.

In this lab, I got to experience the synthesis of copper hydroxide through a double reaction between copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate and sodium hydroxide. By working with two different concentrations of NaOH, it allowed me to see the impact concentrations has on the pH and the final product appearance. Moreover, I learned how to properly use the vacuum filtration technique to separate precipitates and pay attention to the careful setup as there might be some errors with the sealing filter paper.
This project helped me to grow as an Innovative Thinker as I applied problem-solving skills to improve the results. I also have to think critically to solve unexpected problems like filtration issues. In addition, I managed to understand the real-world uses of copper hydroxide which in return make a positive impact globally. This aligns with an Altruistic Global Citizen as connected to MUIDS ELSOs.
Overall, this lab not only deepened my understanding of chemical synthesis but also strengthened my skills in collaboration, adaptability, and thinking beyond the classroom to the world.
In this poster, I got to familiarize myself with the Acids and Bases topic by learning their meanings, behaviors, and uses in daily lives. I got to do a deep research about them to explore in greater depth before start learning this topic. By forming a visual poster, it helped me organize important scientific information, which strengthened my ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and clearly, revealing growth upon myself as an Articulate Communicator.
Additionally, learning about acids and bases, especially in parts of safe and responsible uses of them made me more aware of the importance of handling chemicals carefully to protect people and environment. This connects to me being a Morally Intelligent Person as I recognize that this knowledge should be applied ethically to promote safety to the communities. Throughout this project, I developed a deeper understanding of Chemistry and improved my skills in communicating information thoughtfully and responsibly.

For this project, I had the opportunity to work in a team of four to choose a topic and develop a creative way to present it so that others could easily understand it. I took on the role of a Strategic Learner and Innovative Thinker by suggesting that we turn our presentation into a play. I believed this approach would make the information more engaging and memorable for our audience. However, the process wasn’t completely smooth. At first, I had trouble understanding the topic myself, which made it hard for me to contribute fully. Instead of staying stuck, I took the initiative to ask my teammates to explain the content to me in different ways. With their support and patience, I eventually gained a strong understanding of the topic and was able to explain it confidently on my own.
Once we were all on the same page, the rest of the project became a fun and collaborative experience. We used our creativity to write a skit that was both informative and entertaining. I really enjoyed the teamwork and the chance to think outside the box. This project helped me grow as a learner and showed me the importance of communication and collaboration.
