First Project in Food Science class
In this project, I get to learn about the production of food which natural selection, selective breeding and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) are contributing as a part of Food production.
As I was making this poster, I learn how to get the critical information out of the research paper and converted it in to my own words. Moreover, I get the deeper understandings about the area of food production by using my creativity to come up with the drawing examples.
In this class, I get to be a Strategic Learners as I had the opportunity to come up with the task of making cream cheese. To be honest, I never tried cooking by myself before in my life, therefore, this is the first time I came out of the comfort zone to start something new. First, I began by reasearching about the history , extra knowledge and recipe of cheese making to know the background information deeper before getting started with the cooking part. By laying out the exact recipe step-by-step assisted me in following the steps by order and not failing on this project. Moreover, I also get to be a Leader of the Future to be leading the group with my knowledge from the research to be making the cream cheese. Although, this is my first time cooking and making cream cheese, I was able to lead the group and accomplished our goal together as the Food Science teacher, Mr.Win, approved us. I promise I will continue to improve every single day to get better in the near future.
In this project, I have to produce actual food that has never existed before, while also being inventive, convenient, original, healthful, and delicious. To come up with the idea for this TofuBites product, I had to go through a variety of difficult thinking and reconsidering procedures. However, I was able to learn about the current trend of freeze-drying, which improves the shelf life of food while keeping nutrients intact, making it an excellent replacement to cooking with high heat. Also, I chose egg tofu as the major component since it is high in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that people from all walks of life can benefit from. Furthermore, the distinctive BBQ flavor was chosen since, based on the Consumer Preferences survey form that approximately 100 individuals sent, the majority of them chose the BBQ flavor as their preference. It took me about three months to contact the Mahidol University Frontier Research Facility for the freeze-dry machine, and I attempted freezing the actual products twice before they were perfected. It was an incredible experience that I will cherish for years to come because I worked hard and dedicated myself throughout the process. As a result, I've became an Innovative Thinker, thinking outside the box to come up with the concept of TofuBites, and most significantly, I was successful in making it work. Furthermore, I get to be Articulate Communicators in relation to school ESLOs, because at the end of the production, I have to develop marketing tactics that attract clients' interest in order for them to acquire my product.
