Lenah Valley

Lenah Valley Main Creek Site

This is an area beside New Town Rivulet and sits opposite the car park at the end of Lenah Valley Road.  The site stretches to the park boundary. It was once infested with dense mature Gorse that was partly removed in 2006 by a contractor, funded by a grant, and partly by volunteer efforts.

Checked on 19 Sep 2023

Checked site and no small Gorse were spotted, however there were a couple of big ones and end of site and some beside the rivulet.    A few were found at top of a bank and difficult to get at, could be cute with pole lopper but getting herbicide on would be risky, possible to use rope and harness or a ladder from below.   Cutting without applying herbicide would only be a temporary option as most likely they would resprout.  Need an applicator on a pole??

The few easy to do Gorse can be done as a working alone project.

7 Aug 2007

Work was done at the northern end of the 2006 Envirofund site where Gorse was removed. We did not quite complete this section. Still to be tackled is a bigger area of gorse at the southern end of the Envirofund site, most of which is on the old four-wheel-drive track or below. There are also a few gorse bushes scattered about uphill from the track

1 May 2007

Work was done at two sites at the Lenah Valley entrance to the park. A small creek was cleared on regrowth Hemlock, Teasel, Euphorbia and Fuchsia. One Vinca plant was also found and removed.

The other area worked on was the northern end of the 2006 Envirofund site where Gorse was removed. The Gorse had remained there because there were insufficient funds from the project to clear it all.

Morning tea was provided by the Hobart City Council.
