Chapel Site
During a period commencing in 2003 the group has repeatedly visited the site bounded by Chapel and Goat Fire Trails and gradually brought the area from masses of invaliding Spanish Heath
The majority of Spanish Heath in this site was cleared by cut and paste during 2003 and the site was subjected to a management burn in late 2003 or early 2004. Seedlings of Erica were noted to be quite thick in the areas visited in Oct 2006, particularly near old cut and pasted bushes. The thickness was not uniform, with some spots only with low number, however the majority of locations were heavily seeded. It may be that it is best to not burn for 3-4 years after primary weeding work, in order to allow follow up work under conditions less conducive to seed germination.
It was also noted that there was virtually no shoots coming from the old bushes that had been subjected to the original primary cut and paste work, and it may be that the fire killed any bushes that were reshooting.
However there are now regular juvenile plants needing removal.
Since then regular events have been held to clear seedlings adding up to 32 visits up April 2023.
