Mary and her brother James inherited the pastoral property Berringa Park when their father William died in 1890. They ran the property together until their deaths in 1919 and 1920 respectively. Mary was a spinster, and her brother a bachelor. James left Berringa Park to his cousins, Charlie and Aggie Darton.

The death occurred suddenly on Saturday morning at Sister Brown's private hospital, Wodonga, of Miss Mary [1] Symington, 69, only surviving daughter of the late Mr. William Symington, and sister of Mr. J. Symington, of Berringa Park, Huon, with whom she resided. Deceased was born at Sanquhar, Scotland, about 1850, and arrived in Australia with her parents at the age of nine years. On arriving in Australia, her parents went to the diggings at Beechworth. However, as comparatively little success attended their efforts, her parents took up land at Huon, and deceased resided at Huon for the past 52 years. A short service was conducted in the Presbyterian Church, Wodonga, by Rev. A. S. Bremner on Sunday morning, after which the remains were conveyed for interment in the Yackandandah Cemetery. The Rev. Fletcher, Presbyterian Minister at Yackandandah, conducted the service.

OBITUARY MISS SYMINGTON Miss Symington, of Huon, who has been in indifferent health for some time, died at Wodonga, on Friday last, at the age of 69 years. The deceased lady, who was born at Sanquhar, Scotland, arrived in Australia over half a century ago, and, with the exception of a few years, has resided during that time with her brother (Mr. Jas. Symington) at "Berringa Park." The funeral took place at Yackandandah on Sunday last, when the Rev. C. T. Fletcher read the burial service. Messrs. Frew & Logan had charge of the funeral arrangements.
