The wife of James Symington (1789-1862).
She was born in Durrisdeer. Her parents were John Menzies, farmer, and Catherine Kilpatrick.
She married James Symington in Sanquhar on 13 December 1812.
After her husband died, she left Sanquhar to live with or near her daughter Catherine in Kilmarnock.
She died aged 76 at 3.15 a.m. on 14 January 1864 at 22 St. Marnock Street, Kilmarnock and was buried in the nearby St. Andrew's Kirkyard.
Note a Thomas Menzies (or Menziez-he signed his name as Minzies) was employed by the mining company at Leadhills to sort, wash and dress ore in preparation for smelting from 1750; his sons, John and Thomas junior took over his bargain after his death in 1785 (Scots Mines Company bargain books).
