EXTRACTS FROM SCIENTIFIC WORKS, MAGAZINES, ETC., ETC.
A pamphlet titled Extracts from Scientific Works, Magazines, Etc., Etc. was printed in the 1840s in support of William Symington. Comprising six pages, numbered 13 to 18, this paper must have been prepared to supplement a more comprehensive work. The format is similar to that of the Symington Testimonial which was prepared by or on behalf of Dr. Bowie and William Symington's son. This paper closes with an editorial comment from the Mechanics' Magazine which is dated 26 October 1844. The 1862 Rankine Biography (pages 32-47) reproduces the pamphlet's content verbatim from page 13 to paragraph 6 of page 17, commencing "The experiments with the new engineā¦"
The copy of the pamphlet reproduced here is held by descendants of William Symington 1824-1890 who emigrated to Victoria in 1862.
