CATHERINE SYMINGTON 1826-1891
Born in Sanquhar circa 1826, Catherine was the fourth child of James Symington and Catherine Menzies. There is no record of her birth or baptism.
She was married on 17 November 1843 at Kilmarnock to Peter Young, Journeyman Carpet Weaver. [1]
Peter Young was the son of Alexander Young, carpet weaver, and Janet Morrison. He was baptised on 8 December 1816. The 1841 Scotland Census has him living at 39 Neilson Street, Kilmarnock with his parents and younger brothers, Robert 15 and Charles 12.
Peter Young died aged 75 years on 12 August 1892 at 20 St. Marnock Street, Kilmarnock
Catherine Symington died aged 65 [2] on 1 November 1891, a day after suffering a stroke, at 8 Dundonald Road, Kilmarnock. She was buried in St. Andrew's Churchyard with her husband and children, Alexander, Catherine and Jessie.

CATHERINE born 19 February 1851; [1] died 16 October 1911, milliner, single. In 1905 her address was 16 Mckinley Terrace, Kilmarnock. She died at 2 Princes Street.
JESSIE born c. 1856; died 21 December 1891 age 35
AGNES born 15 April 1858; died 11 October 1927. Mentioned in the codicil to the will of her uncle James Symington of Berringa Park, Huon Lane, Victoria.

CATHERINE SYMINGTON'S MEMORIAL AT KILMARNOCK JULY 2019
Catherine is buried in the kirkyard of St. Andrew's Church, Parish of Glencairn, Kilmarnock. Her memorial monument which comprised an obelisk formed from red sandstone is now in a very sorry state of disrepair. The church has been converted for cheap accommodation.
