50 / 50 Pot
We are planning a 50/50 pot and have the drawing toward the end of the event. The cost for tickets to the pot are $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. Half of the pot goes to the Jay County Amateur Radio Club, Inc and the other half to the winner.
Fishing Derby Details
Entry fee: $5.00. Catch and release event. Contest runs between 12 Noon and 3 PM. We will have prizes in two categories, one for the 16 and under group, and another for 17 and over. We will also have a variety of door prizes, the winners chosen by drawings.
Ple ase be aware that Indiana law requires you have a fishing license for public waterways if you are 18 or over, but it seems that the city won't reinforce it for this event. But we make no promises. We are not the fishing license police so will not check to see if you have one. We are also not responsible for any fines levied by a lack of a permit, nor will this disqualify you from the event, but your entry fee is non-refundable.
You will receive one ticket which will be your participant number. The participant number is yours and is not transferrable. Each entrant can get only get one participant number and is allowed only one pole. We also suggest a smooth hook rather than a barbed one to help prevent more serious injuries to the fish. PLEASE DON'T LOSE YOUR TICKET STUB, IT CANNOT BE REPLACED except by purchasing another entry.
Your choice of bait, but no electronic fish attractors. If we find you have been using one, you will be disqualified from the contest with no refund of your entry fee and your entry will be voided. If it's found that you're accepting fish from other anglers, or we've determined that you've been employing other methods to give you an unfair advantage, or just showing poor sportsmanship, your entry will also be voided and no refund given. The contest judges will make all determinations. What we're saying here is, don't cheat and just have a great time.
All fish caught must be verified by one of the contest judges in order to be counted. There will be judges in the fishing area and you can usually identify them with their bright safety vest. Flag one down and your fish will be recorded. In case of possible scoring errors, our determination as to the outcome is final.
Catch and Release
This is a catch and release event. Once your fish is verified, it must be released back into the lake.
Prize Details
We will be awarding prizes in two categories, the 16 and under group and another set of prizes to the 17 and above group. The winners will be determined by the biggest fish caught by weight, and a second group with the most fish caught in each age group.
Prizes will be on display at the event and will be donations from our sponsors.
Tie Breaker
In the unlikely event there is a tie, we will determine a winner by a drawing of winning participant's tickets or another method to be determined.
