This is a large event that needs a lot of ham radio volunteers (as suggested by the fact that they have a subdomain devoted to hams -- see below). The main event runs Friday and Saturday, so you can provide a lot of help without affecting your Sabbath observance. (Yay!) It's a great opportunity to serve the community, associate with other hams, perhaps have a new experience, and pick up some new skills; I encourage you to participate if you can spare the time.

Hello all,
We have approximately 46 positions to fill for the hood to coast race in 31 days.
On August 23rd and 24th, the 23rd annual “Mother of all Relays” will start at Timberline Lodge and end in Seaside Oregon. The Hood to Coast Relay is a 200 mile race involving 1050 teams with 12,600 runners, and over 3600 volunteers. In 2012, $634,000 was donated in support of cancer research.
As communication coordinator for the event I have been tasked with scheduling over 100 ham operators at various locations throughout the race. Most of these sites have no cell or land line phones available and the Ham operator is the only resource to emergency services.
Last year the Ham radio operators handled 8 emergency calls, and several other miscellaneous assistance calls. This is not a standard exercise of your emergency communication skills and equipment, it is real life and the service you provide is needed and greatly appreciated by all runners.
I could really use your help, I currently have 45 slots open the majority of these are in the coast range and at Race Control (formally EOC) located at the HTC corporate headquarters on Sylvan Hill.
