Link to Greenwich?

No. Not as part of AT's WCRR project.

Community interest has grown regarding the possibility of a pedestrian bridge providing access to Melcor's new community of Greenwich, east of Stoney Trail. The recent announcement of a second Calgary Farmer's Market now scheduled to open in 2022 as part of Melcor's Greenwich development has provided further attention to this issue.

To the left is a schematic from the City of Calgary's Valley Ridge Area Structure Plan (ASP). The dashed blue oval highlights a conceptual connection across Stoney Trail contained in the ASP. This conceptual connection is also shown by the dashed green oval in the regional schematic below.

We have spoken with AT regarding the possibility of a pedestrian linkage from Valley Ridge across Stoney Trail. AT has confirmed there are no plans for such a project as part of the WCRR project.

Rather this would be a City of Calgary decision to fund such a connection. Councillor Sutherland advised that should this project ever proceed, post-completion of the WCRR, that funding would need to be provided by Melcor and Parkside Holdings (see below text), 50% each.

The regional schematic below, looks southwest. It is a screenshot taken from the City of Calgary's 3D video flyover of the Trans-Canada Corridor Study. It provides a future perspective of what the area may look like after development of a number of projects surrounding Valley Ridge. The schematic does not include the future, southern extension of the WCRR.

It is not well known, but situated just east of Stoney Trail and north of the TCH is a 66 acre parcel of undeveloped lands owned by Parkside Holdings Ltd., a mobile park operator. Parkside's lands are also located adjacent to and immediately west of Melcor's Greenwich development and the existing Greenwood/Greenbriar trailer park. Parkside's plans are presently under review by the City of City however no immediate plans for development are on the horizon. The bright blue, dashed oval below right references the same conceptual link discussed above. Any linkage would need to involve discussions with Parkside as the east side of any pedestrian bridge would "land" within their parcel.
