Opposition Statements

After careful review of the City's proposed policy, attending the City's public information session and dialogue with numerous Valley Ridge residents and Calgarians from other communities, the VRCRG has adopted a position of opposition against blanket rezoning.

Blanket Rezoning needs to be an election issue in 2025 so ALL Calgarians can have their say, not just 15 Councillors!

May 3, 2024, Letter to Councillor Sonya Sharp and City Council

March 1, 2024, brief posted to NextDoor laying out our rationale for opposing blanket rezoning.

The Director of the Civic Affairs Committee of the Varsity Community Association has given permission to publish the VRA's position statement submitted to the City of Calgary.

The VRCA finally did submit a letter of opposition to blanket rezoning on April 5, 2024.  Their letter also appeared in the community newsletter, The Valley Breeze.

The is an excellent, joint letter from both C.A.'s to the City of Calgary in March 2024 opposing blanket rezoning.

Thirty-four community associations (representing 43 communities) signed this letter to City Council, jointly opposing blanket rezoning.  We have listed the 34 Community Associations below. It was updated March 28, 2024 for emailing to City Council prior to the City Clerk's Deadline of April 15, 2024.  The Valley Ridge Community Association decided not sign this letter.
