Since its formation in 2020, the VRCRG's website has provided information for residents on planning and development issues that impact, either directly or indirectly, the community of Valley Ridge in NW Calgary.
In April 2020, the VRCA’s Planning Committee members resigned from the Valley Ridge Community Association (VRCA) due to irreconcilable differences between the Committee and the VRCA's Board regarding how to manage key planning and transportation issues, on behalf of the community.
Upon resigning from the VRCA the members of the former Planning Committee were reluctant to abandon their ongoing efforts on behalf of VR residents and decided to continue their work by forming a concerned residents’ group—the Valley Ridge Concerned Residents' Group (VRCRG).
The VRCRG continues to maintain this website and strives to ensure the accuracy of all information. However, we make no explicit or implicit claims that any or all of the information is 100 per cent accurate.
The VRCRG is not affiliated with the Valley Ridge Community Association (VRCA).

2023-Present: City-wide Rezoning
The impact of the City of Calgary's proposed city-wide or blanket rezoning on Valley Ridge is presently the community's greatest concern. This represents the most significant change to Calgary's planning policy in decades and will have an impact on Valley Ridge. Our website will report on the nature and status of various issues of concern associated with this policy. City Council is scheduled to review and vote on city-wide rezoning at a Public Hearing on April 22nd, 2024.
2018-2023: West Calgary Ring Road (WCRR)
The impact of increased traffic noise coupled with the need for enhanced sound attenuation and visual privacy measures regarding construction of Alberta Transportation's (AT's) new WCRR acted as the catalyst for the formation of the VRCRG. With the opening of the new WCRR in September 2023 and construction of a new noise wall along the edge of the westbound Trans Canada Highway off-ramp into the Valley Ridge, the impact of noise and privacy concerns has been largely mitigated. The VRCRG will continue to monitor and address WCRR-related issues going forward.
The VRCRG continues to monitor and report on planning issues of concern impacting Valley Ridge, both from outside and within the community's boundary.
