Nearby Developments Overview

For many years Valley Ridge and surrounding areas sat quietly by as Calgary's development and growth steamed ahead in other parts of the city.

With Alberta Transportation's (AT's) ongoing construction of the West Calgary Ring Road (WCRR) and several nearby development projects now approved or underway, the area surrounding Valley Ridge is now peppered with development projects.

Of note, various projects, outlined in solid red below, are now well underway:  Qualico''s West Crestmont Phase 4, south of the TCH, Trinity's Medicine Hill development at C.O.P., and Melcor's Greenwich development just east of Valley Ridge that includes the new Calgary Farmer's Market scheduled to open in spring 2022.    North of the Bow River, Brookfield Residential's Rockland Park project is now in progress.

Approved projects now on hold due to construction of the new interchanges and ring road south of Valley Ridge are:  Shape Development, BVX Loblaws and a new proposal by Avi Land Corp for 506 single family homes.  In April 2021, Rocky View County approved Qualico's Coach Creek Commercial District, an 800,000 sq. ft. commercial site on the SE corner of Old Banff Coach Road and the TCH.  This has now been referred to the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) for approval.

B&A Planning Group, on behalf of Greenbriar Development Corporation, has recently submitted an Outline Plan and Land Use Redesignation application (LOC2019-0183) for a parcel immediately east of Stoney Trail, north of Hwy. #1 for a mixed residential development for a minimum of 925 units.  This project offers the possibility of a future pedestrian and transit connection from the east end of Valley Springs Blvd, east across Stoney Trail that would provide direct access to the new Calgary Farmer's Market for residents of Valley Ridge.  This application is part of Calgary's City Council Public Hearing scheduled for May 10, 2021.
