Trinity / Medicine Hill

Trinity Developments is now in the construction phase of its new Medicine Hill development. This is a mixed-use project on 260 acres located south of the TCH between COP. and Sarcee Trail. To support increased traffic volumes, the Bowfort interchange was built in 2015 and upgrades to the Sarcee Trail / TCH interchange have been completed allowing for a second entry/exit into the development.

Below is a modified version of Trinity's schematic showing land uses. The view looks south at their Medicine Hill development with the Trans Canada Highway running east-west near the bottom, the new Bowfort Road interchange shown on the right and the upgraded Sarcee Trail interchange on the left. Medicine Hill is being developed as three separate "cells": the Towne Centre or Commercial District, The Village Residential District and a mixed use Gateway District. The Canada Olympic Park and Adjacent Lands Area Structure Plan ("COP ASP") was amended in July 2015 and now allows for up to 700,000 sq. ft. of retail/commercial development, 210,000 sq. ft. of office space and up to 2,229 residential units together with a 250 room hotel and a 1,500 seat theatre.

The location of several large retail outlets are also show with SaveOnFoods, an anchor store, now under construction.

The COP ASP now allows for ten prominent buildings or "towers", up to 50 m or 15 storeys in height. Their locations are shown by the large asterisks. One of the five towers in the Gateway District may be up to 75 m in height or 22 storeys. Originally planned for nine towers, a land use amendment was approved by Council in March 2019 allowing for the addition of a tenth tower and the re-positioning of two existing towers in the Towne Centre or Commercial District. This latest amendment will accommodate two seniors independent living/assisted living apartment towers to be built and operated by Wellings of Calgary, part of the Nautical Lands Group.
