Plebiscite

At a Special Meeting on Wednesday, March 13 , 2024, City Council voted 8 to 6 against holding a plebiscite to allow Calgarians to decide the fate of the new blanket rezoning policy.  Instead, the matter will go to a Public Hearing of City Council on April 22nd as originally planned.  Had Council decided in favor of the plebiscite, it would have been held as part of the 2025 Municipal election. We note that blanket re-zoning was never raised as election issue by any current Councillor during the 2021 municipal election.

We congratulate our Ward 1 Counsellor, Sonya Sharp, and the other five members of Council who voted in support of holding a plebiscite:   Dan McLean, Terry Wong, Andre Chabot, Sean Chu and Peter Demong.   We encourage all Calgary homeowners to email or write their Counsellor voicing their opposition against blanket rezoning and to consider participating in person at the April 22nd Public Hearing.  This is a link to the City of Calgary's website providing information on the Public Hearing process and how Calgarians may participate so as to voice their concerns.

We are concerned that many Calgarians are unaware of this new bylaw proposal or its implications.
