David Dooley, born on November 14th, 2001 in Copiapó, in the Atacama region of Chile.
He was the only mortal human at the founding of the colonies. David accepted only pain management but he resisted any attempts to extend his life, and refused immortalization. He was a frail, stunted man from Chile, noticeable for his bushy white hair on the sides of his bald head and hawkish long nose that mirrored Chile's distinct features.
David's fierce intellect, specifically his paper on quantum entanglement for faster-than-light communication, earned him a full scholarship to Stanford University in Palo Alto, where he eventually earned his Doctor of Science in quantum physics. After getting his initial PhD, he became very interested in artificial intelligence.
In 2038, David Dooley was working as a professor at Palo Alto when he met Janice Oliva, the recently divorced wife of one of the Deans. Janice was of Scandinavian descent. They were married a year later and were incredibly happy together. However, during The Wasting in 2050, Janice passed away. David, who was never very social, withdrew entirely from society and poured himself into his research. He never truly recovered from the loss of his beloved wife.
David Dooley wasn’t included in references to the original 250 Immortals. Rather, he joined the colonists on the Vesta pyramid ship by special invitation from Brenda Myers. She had a keen interest in his pioneering work on artificial intelligence, a topic they'd extensively discussed through the Information Preservation Foundation (IPF).
Dooley played a crucial role in colony development, creating the original matrix personality that he and Brenda Myers would later build Janice 1.0 around. Tragically, Dooley passed away at the age of 90. This was seven years, symbolically on his birthday, before Janice was transposed to a significantly improved hardware architecture and subsequently activated.
