Caius Calypso was born on October 15, 1992, in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, to an historian father and a glass blower mother from Messina. His parents separated when he was three, and he spent most of his teen years bouncing back and forth between the two cities.
Having a historian as a father and a glass blower as a mother who played a part in his artistic growth influenced Caius's interests and personality as he grew older. However, his mixed heritage and the challenges he faced growing up between two cities gave him a unique perspective on life.
His mother, Morgana Devini, fresh from a messy break-up, decided to travel to Palermo for New Year's Eve, seeking independence and adventure, showcases her courage and rebellious spirit. Celebrating the week holiday with little sleep and lots of drink, Morgana met Caius's father, a tall, lanky and slightly disfigured man who spoke of history with eloquence and charm. She liked his voice but otherwise found him offputting, making him perfect foe a weekend rebound.
Months later, back in Messina, Morgana discovered that she was pregnant, prompting the couple to move to Palermo to raise their child together. Though they never got married, they managed to stay together for three years after Caius's birth, showing their dedication and love as parents. Ultimately, the combination of these elements creates an intricate and fascinating backstory for the character of Caius Calypso.
He had problems with authority and did not take well to school so at 16 he snuck on a freighter and left to travel the world. He was not adverse to hard work and took easily to unfamiliar tasks so he found little trouble getting enough work for food and clothing and lodging in various locations. He only counted a country once he had been there more than a month and when the great collapse stranded him in Sri Lanka he had been to 27 countries. If you counted just stepping in them he'd bend to almost 80.
After the great collapse Sri Lanka was not a wonderful place to be a foreigner in buddy managed to forage enough to stay alive and eventually got a job on a fishing ship trying to get to Australia but he ended up in Jakarta.
At 38 years old, Caius's appearance is described as plain and unremarkable, with an almost constant pained and unwelcoming expression on his face. However, when he puts his mind to it, Caius can concentrate enough to smile and be seen as attractive. He has a short, straight torso leading down to wide hips, with long, bowlegged legs, and pigeon-toed feet. The one outstanding feature that Caius possesses is his lush, curly, and smoky ashen hair, which adds to his unique character and appearance.
At this point in his life, Caius had given up on finding a mate after being with short trysts with only four women. During his time in Jakarta, he worked as a member of the servant class while hoping for good work or connections. One week, he landed a gig as a caterer for a grand ballroom in the heart of the city. During this event, he caught the eye of Frejja Sorensen, a quirky handmaiden of Count Magnus St. Sere, also known as the Great Dane. The two found themselves getting to know one another in isolated backrooms and alleyways. Despite being content with any woman's attention, Caius was intrigued by Frejja's unique qualities. After the event, Frejja must have advocated for Caius, leading to him being personally interviewed by the inquisitive Count Magnus. Caius shared his personal details in a masterful manner, impressing Count Magnus enough to earn passage back to his opulent estate in Denmark aboard his private jet. He had never flown before.
Five years later, Caius's life had taken an unexpected turn, having married Frejja, and become a part of the cadre of men orbiting around Count Magnus at all times. Once Count Magnus underwent immortalization, he made sure that all his staff and underlings underwent the same process, including Caius and Frejja. Most would have disregarded Caius for Project Nest Egg, but Duke Magnus known for thinking outside the box, recognized the importance of people capable of adapting to any situation, which led him to choose Caius and Frejja for The Farm.
