Born in 1987 in Chaklala, a small, well-to-do town near Islamabad, Pakistan.
Fareed Shah is a Pakistani man with a thin, bookish frame and stands at a height of 5 feet 9 inches (175 cm). He has short dark hair and warm brown eyes, with a large, bulbous nose, a small mouth, and a slightly weaker chin.
He received his education at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad, where he developed a passion for astrobiology, specializing in the search for extraterrestrial life. In 2009, at only 22, Fareed was relocated to the self-contained Moon Blossom Collective in Gwangju, South Korea, soon after he was purchased by the corporation. His new dwelling, needs, and schooling were all within one massive building, which was like a giant 12-level mall with a central courtyard half the size of New York's Central Park. Everything he could possibly need was included in his employment package, but the condition was that he would not be allowed to leave the grounds. Moon Blossom Corporation owned him, and he was one of hundreds of employees who lived and worked within the closed-off building.
Jung Ji-Yoon, the CEO of the Moon Blossom Corporation, had made a habit of video-calling all of his star employees on a regular basis. However, after his family was killed when North Korea dropped a nuclear weapon on Seoul in 2028, he became increasingly distant from his employees.
In an effort to protect its employees from future disasters and preserve their talents and expertise for future projects, the Moon Blossom Corporation made the decision to order all its employees to be immortalized. An area was added to the hospital for the BioNano procedures, and a mandatory schedule of appointments extending over most of a year was posted on the corporation's intranet system.
In 2081, when the corporation started working on The Farm, Fareed was one of the most logical choices to be among the 50 people selected. His background in astrobiology and his expertise in the search for extraterrestrial life made him an ideal candidate for the mission. It was no secret that the Immortals had to be the best and brightest that humanity had to offer, and Fareed certainly fit that bill. Despite the fact that he had to spend 80 years of his career working within the confines of the Moon Blossom Collective, his dedication and talent eventually earned him a coveted spot among the 50 Immortals.
Fareed has always struggled with socializing due to his unconventional facial features and body language, which have often made others feel standoffish in his presence. Consciously or not, part of his decision to come to the Sphere was based on the thought that young colonist women brought by their Immortal parents might be more open to socializing with him. Despite his initial hopes, Fareed continues to feel isolated and struggles to form meaningful connections with others. Nonetheless, he remains dedicated to his work and he remains fascinated deciphering the clues regarding the aliens that built it.
