I have been a St. Mary's County Farm Bureau Ambassador from a very young age. Farm Bureau has given me opportunities to meet people and public speaking experiences. When I was just 8 years old, I was on Fox 5 for Farm Bureau. We were able to speak on the mic and got asked questions about agriculture in our community.
As I have gotten older, I help at the fair by handing out ribbons and advocating for agriculture. I enjoy being able to tell people all about livestock and agriculture in St. Mary's County especially when at the fair. You would be surprised by just how many people have no clue where their food comes from. I love telling them my experiences on the farm and how animals get to the fair. We explain the work that these kids put into their livestock and gardening projects. From the day the animals are born to auction day at the fair and even what happens to the animals after they are sold.
Many kids also enter field crops into the fair. My favorite part of entering crops into the fair was going out into the corn field or soybean field and trying to find the best one. A few things I look for when choosing crops are their height and amount of crop on the actual plant. I hope to pursue a career in the livestock or agricultural industries.
