Livestock Skillathon is a contest where you identify breeds, feeds, meats, equipment, and animal parts. You also judge wool and meat. Finally you take a quality assurance test on livestock.
This is one my most favorite events of the year. There is a lot of practice that goes into studying for this event and it has become a big part of my life. It seems hard at first because of everything you must memorize. I find myself finding ways to test my knowledge all year long.
I have competed in this event for many years and have placed higher each year. Once you are 14 you are placed into the Senior Categorgy. If you place in the top 12, then you get to go to a selection contest. There you take another test on all of the same material. If you place in the top four at that contest, then you proceed to the National Contest and represent Maryland there.
