I attended the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Judging Conference in Louisville KY. I was able to win this trip by placing in the top four at the State 4-H Poultry Judging Contest. The contest covers egg grading, poultry judging, giving oral reasons, identifying meat parts, judging meat parts, judging carcasses, and grading the exterior and interior of eggs. Through this trip I was able to fly on a plane for the very first time. I went on the trip not knowing anyone and came back with so many new friends. I had so many fun experiences such as we toured the Louisville slugger factory and Churchill downs where the Kentucky derby is hosted every year. We even got to see some of the horses race. There was a huge social for all of the poultry contests including poultry judging, avian bowl, egg demo, and the BBQ contest. There we had dinner and socialized with all 50 states! It was so fun being able to meet so many people. There was also a fun dance to follow. This was such a surreal experience and I can not believe it is already over. I would like to thank Angelique Livezey and Dave Crum for coaching us this year and all of the people who encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone to compete at the state contest. Don’t be afraid to take the risk because it could end up turning into the best opportunity ever.
