Being part of the Academy of Finance (AOF) has been one of the most impactful experiences of my high school career. From the moment I joined, I was introduced to the world of business, economics, and personal finance in a way that felt practical and exciting. The program has helped me understand how the financial world works, from basic budgeting and saving to larger concepts like investing, credit, and entrepreneurship. It’s given me a strong foundation that will benefit me no matter what career I pursue.
One of the things I appreciate most about the Academy of Finance is how hands-on and career-focused it is. We don’t just learn from textbooks, we complete real-world projects, hear from guest speakers in the industry, and participate in job-shadowing opportunities. These experiences have helped me connect what I’m learning in class to actual careers in finance, business, and beyond. It’s exciting to see how the skills I’m building, like analyzing data, using financial software, and working in teams can be applied in the real world.
Another major highlight of being in AOF is the sense of community and professionalism it creates. Everyone in the program is motivated to learn and grow, and we support each other academically and professionally. Through group projects, presentations, and class discussions, I’ve gotten to collaborate with students who share similar goals. It also taught me how to present myself in a professional setting, whether it’s writing a resume, dressing for a business event, or preparing for an interview.
The Academy of Finance has also helped me grow my confidence and leadership skills. Through opportunities like networking events and internships, I’ve learned how to step out of my comfort zone and take initiative. I’ve discovered that I enjoy solving problems and thinking critically. These experiences have shown me that I’m capable of more than I thought and have helped shape the direction I want to take in the future.
Overall, being in the Academy of Finance has been a life-changing experience. It has opened doors for me academically, professionally, and personally. I’ve gained valuable knowledge, made meaningful connections, and discovered a passion for finance and business that I hope to continue exploring in college and beyond. I’m proud to be part of a program that prepares students not just for tests, but for life.
