MSD 2019

26. 10. 2019: 21st Donautal Halfmarathon, Unternmühl, Austria

Although in good (running) form I had hurt my right thigh a couple of days before this race. I started (together with my friend Robert Lintner) but unfortunately had to stop after some 200 meters. A DNF which did not really matter.

06. 10. 2019: 9th Herzlauf OÖ, Traun, Austria

My first race together with Amala Vilcinschi. As always very well organized, we ran the full distance together and finished the 10 km in 0:52:39. It was her very first running race.

27. - 29. 09. 2019: Ultra Czech 515, Racnice, Czech Republic

My first Ultraman-style race: You swim (10 km) and bike (145 km) on day one of this three-day-event, you cycle on day two (276 km) and you run a double marathon on day three. Since it was relatively close to my hometown I decided to do this race to close my ultra season. Everything went well, although I felt a little tired in my head. It was not so easy to mtivate myself to finish these long distances one more time, but I was happy when I crossed the final finish line on day 3.

30. - 31. 08. 2019: Ultra Triathlon World Championships, Panevezys, Lithuania

My very first Ultra Tri World Championship, in my favourite place in Lithuania! After having completed the Quintuple a couple of weeks before I thought my body was ready for this race, but I have to admit that I still felt it in my bones. Nevertheless my performance was not bad on this new course and I also enjoyed the hospitality and friendship of my Lithuanian friends. I finished in 31:33:19 which also was the 3rd place in my age group.

11. - 15. 07. 2019: Quintuple Ultra Triathlon, Bad Blumau, Austria

WHAT A DAY (or better said: what 4 1/2 days)! My key event for 2019 and I was so happy with my performance. The swim went really well (9th place out of the 28), the bike was very good and the run was hard, especially the last half marathon, but I was able to finish in 108:22:56.

Of course, in a race like that there are many ups and downs. But definitely there were more ups than downs, thanks also to my excellent crew. Thank you all for your help.

23. 06. 2019: Lake crossing, llmitz - Mörbisch - Illmitz, Austria

My worst performance in a long time. I don´t really know what was wrong, I just could not swim at the usual speed. Just a bad day. It took me 3:03:23 to complete the 6,2 km which turned out to be nearly 6,7.

22. 06. 2019: Muskel Charity SwimRun Speed, Mörbisch, Austria

I had signed up for this fun event because I would do the double lake crossing the following day. Unfortunately I had forgotten my swimming goggles, but I could buy new ones right at the event. I had not brought proper swim-run-shoes either, so I had to run in the sandals I was using that day. Got some blisters because of that.

The event itself was quite demanding, swim paddles were allowed which helped for better swimming times. I finished the distances (4,8 km run, 1,7 km swim) in 1:03:47.

01. / 02. 06. 2019: 24-hour-cycling Obertrum, Austria

Some cycling friends of mine organized a "familiar" 24-hour-bike-event, cycling around beautiful lake Trum in Salzburg. For me it was a perfect test for the upcoming Quintuple race. I wanted to cover the distance of 450 km and try out my sleep tactic (sleeping for three hours between 1 and 4 in the morning). Beautiful weather, great scenery and strong bike legs made for a great experience. 457 km covered.

24. 05. 2019: 8th Swim Time Trial, Pucking, Austria

For the eight time I particpated in this nice and well organized swim event close to home. This means that I am the only athlete who took part in every edition of the time trial. I finished in 0:19:52 wich is really slow. But taking in account that my training is for the distance of 19 km, it would be a miracle if I swam faster.

18. / 19. 05. 2019: 600-km-Brevet Randonneurs Autriche, Haid, Austria

600 km! To be honest I was a bit scared by this distance, especially because there were also some 6000 m of altitude to be climbed. But nothing is impossible.

Unfortunately I had a puncture only eight kilometeres into the ride, which meant that my group was gone by the time I had fixed it. What followed was a solo ride (without sleep) for about 27 hours.

The weather was brilliant, there was a full moon lighting me the way and the aurora was worth all the pain. Another great experience, another little step in my preparation for the Quintuple triathlon.

Btw: It was the longest distance I have cycled so far.

11. 05.2019: 400-km-Brevet Randonneurs Autriche, Haid, Austria

My third Brevet this year, this time 400 km. During the morning the weather was dry but cloudy, but in the afternoon heavy rain started and did not stop until we came back to our "home base". This meant that we had to ride in heavy rain for about seven hours.

It was a great test for mind and equipment. Except for my gloves I really stayed 90% dry - nevertheless we all were happy when we completed the distance.

20. 04. 2019: Lanterna Road Race, Tar-Vabriga, Croacia

For the second time I happened to be in that aerea and I took the advantage to participate in this nice and well organised race along the Adriatic sea. I finished the ten kilometers in 0:52:40, which was not so bad after all the cycling I had done the week before.

13. - 20. 04. 2019: Istriabike training week in Porec, Croacia

For the fourth time I travelled to Porec for a week full of bike-fun. This year I joined the Sports + Group where we did not ride as fast as the young guns, but a little further than all the other training groups. So my total of this week were 712 km and 8900 meters of altitude.

06. 04. 2019: 200-km-Brevet Randonneurs Autriche, Haid, Austria

Been there, done that. A little bit warmer than two weeks ago, again I was lucky with great sunshine during the whole ride. Unfortunately the headwind was really strong in the afternoon. Nevertheless it was another great Randonneurs-day. Thanks for the company.

23. 03. 2019: 200-km-Brevet Randonneurs Autriche, Haid, Austria

On a really cold but beautifully sunny day I started my personal Brevet-series 2019. For me it is great training for the Quintuple triathlon. It actually was my first ride outside after the winter break. A great day in nice company.

16./17. 03. 2019: 2nd second 24-hour-race, Heilbronn, Germany

It was not so much the physical exercise which attracted me to this race but the "training for the head". If you want to do Ultra-triathlon you must have a determined mind to finish the event.

Of course I had hopes to run a good number of kilometers, but the heavy wind and especially the cold during the night (temperatures went down to 0 degrees) made it hard. Due to the cold I had to warm up in the runner´s room every hour and I even went for a two-hour-nap in the "darkest hours" of the night.

Although I was a little disappointed because I could not reach the kilometer-mark I had hoped for, in the end I was happy with my 102,6 km and the fact that I did not give up and ran even during the coldest moments.

03. 03. 2019: 10. DELTA-4-hour-race, Marchtrenk, Austria

For the third conscutive time I wanted to participate in this 4-hour-race. Due to my sore Achilles tendon I stopped after about an hour and a half, having covered roughly 15 km.

02. 03. 2019: Charity Swim, Linz, Austria

12,5 km in 2016, 12 km in 2017, 13 km last year and again 13 km this year. This was the result of the 5-hour charity swim which is held annualy for the Clinic Clowns.

17. 02. 2019: Zurich Maratón de Sevilla, Spain

Great weather, a flat course and many happy participants: that was the Marathon of Sevilla. For me it was another preparation race for longer tasks. I wanted to finish under four hours and was happy with a rather relaxed 3:57:28.

09. 02. 2019: 4th Lipno Ice Marathon, Černá v Pošumaví, Czech Republic

Snow, rain and a lot of sunshine charaterized this very special race which is held on the frozen ice of the Lipno lake. This year there was a lot of snow on the ice which made it really hard to run. I had decided to do the half marathon (because I would run the Sevilla marathon a week later), and that was a good decision. It took me 2:42:38 to finish the 22 km, and it was a real tough race.

03. 02. 2019: 12th Skimarathon, Saalfelden, Austria

Another bad-weather-day with snowfall and wind. After last year´s experience I signed up for the 21-km-distance, which turned out to be a good decision. I enjoyed the race a lot and finished in 1:24:03.

26. 01. 2019: 40th Steiralauf, Bad Mitterndorf, Austria

Heavy snowfall during 24 hours made this cross country skiing event quite difficult. No wonder it took me half an hour longer than last year to finish the 25 km (in 2:03:02). Still I enjoyed the race.

06. 01. 2019: 27. 3-Königs-Lauf, Schildorn, Austria

Heavy snow and very difficult conditions marked my first race of the year. I was glad to finish the 30 km in 3:09:56.
