My Sports Diary 2008
In my second year I competed in 23 races in five different countries: 11 triathlons, 1 aquathlon, and 11 running races.
31. 12. 2008: Carrera San Silvestre, Guatemala City, Guatemala
Another "Carrera San Silvestre" (New Year´s run) in Guatemal City, the distance was 9,6 km and it took me 1:05:00 to finish.
27. 12. 2008: Altjahreslauf, Grein, Austria
During my holiday in Austria I did my first run in my home country. It was the "Altjahreslauf" (old year's run) in the birth-city of my mother, Grein. I finished the 4,8 km in 0:28:36.
09. 11. 2008: Triatlón Sprint por equipos, Puerto San José, Guatemala
A team race where all four team members had to complete a Sprint distance triathlon. The time was taken when the third of the four crossed the finish line. Together with Gerardo Martinez father, Gerardo Martinez son and Boris Rodas we finished in a time of 1:47:21
26. 10. 2008: Carrera del azucar, Escuintla, Guatemala
Organized by the sugar factory in Escuintla, this was a 10,5 km running race. I finished in 0:55:14
12. 10. 2008: Carrera Exerzone, Guatemala City, Guatemala
Organized by fitness company Exerzone, this was a running race over 6,2 km which I finished in 0:29:48.
05. 10. 2008: Maya Maratón, Amatitlan, Guatemala
My first full marathon was the Maya Maratón run around lake Amatitlan in Guatemala. I finished in just over four hours in 4:01:50. Although the official distance was a full marathon, my Polar said it was 43,3 km, so I consider that I ran my first marathon a little under four hours.
21. 09. 2008: Triatlón Sprint de la ciudad, Guatemala City, Guatemala
A sprint triathlon race right in the heart of Guatemala City. I needed 1:36:22 to finish this distance.
07. 09. 2008: Lionman Triathlon, Belize City, Belize
I love Belize. So I was glad to have the opportunity to compete in this beautiful country. Very hot and very humid climate made this Olympic distance race a good experience. I finished in 3:38:40
31. 08. 2008: Aquatlón, Panajachel, Guatemala
Another aquathlon, this time in Panajachel on the beautiful lake Atitlan. 2,5 km run - 1 km swim - 2,5 km run: I finished in 0:56:37.
24. 08. 2008: Carrera Cross Country, Florencia, Antigua, Guatemala
A cross country race in the vicinity of Antigua, one of the most impressive colonial cities in Latin America. I finished the 4,4 km in 0:24:51.
10. 08. 2008: Triatlón Campeonato nacional olímpico, Puerto San Jose, Guatemala
National olympic distance Championship of Guatemala: My final time was 2:57:15
03. 08. 2008: Carrera Ciencias Economicas, Guatemala City, Guatemala
Organized by the faculty of Economic Sciencies, I completed this 10,5 km race in 0:57:41
20. 07. 2008: Triatlón olímpico, Santa Ana, El Salvador
My first race in El Salvador: My final time was 3:22:15.
29. 06. 2008: Triatlón Hombre Maya, Peten, Guatemala
Where it all started one year ago (i. e. where I competed in my very first triathlon). This time I did the whole race and finished in 2:45:19.
15. 06. 2008: Olympic Triathlon, Blue Lake, Portland, Oregon, USA
I attended a big stamp show in Oregon and took the opportunity to compete in this triathlon. My first wetsuit swim, and renting a bike I finished it in 2:46:10. Nice experience.
01. 06. 2008: Triatlón olímpico, Rio Dulce, Guatemala
Another olympic distance race, this time in Izabal. My final time was 3:39:40. During the bike section my saddle somehow got broken and I had to finish this part in a standing position.
25. 05. 2008: Carrera contra el tabaquismo, Guatemala City, Guatemala
A race against smoking. Perfect for me. 3,9 km in 0:23:29.
18. 05. 2008: Medio Maratón Coban, Coban, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala
One of the bigger races (3257 participants) and maybe the most famous one in Guatemala: the Coban half marathon. And it was my second 1/2, which I finished in 2:08:03.
11. 05. 2008: Carrera Arco Iris, Guatemala City, Guatemala
A nice 5 km race in the heart of the capital. My final time was 0:28:30.
06. 04. 2008: Triatlón olímpico, Puerto San Jose, Guatemala
One more olympic distance race close to the sea. I finished in 2:51:19.
09. 03. 2008: Triatlón Sprint, Puerto San Jose, Guatemala
Sprint triathlon race at the usual venue (Base naval del Pacifico). I finished in 1:28:23.
10. 02. 2008: Triatlón en relevos, Puerto San Jose, Guatemala
A relay team triathlon where every member of each team swam 300 m, cycled 7 km and ran 1,5 km. We finished in 1:16:51.
27. 01. 2008: Carrera Max Tott, Guatemala City, Guatemala
My very first half marathon on the hilly streets of Guatemala City. I was proud to finish in 2:04:37.
