business ecosystem Structure

Business Ecosystem >>> Business Ecosystem Structure

Basic Definitions

The main building block in the business is a company that has its own structure.

Examples of structures are:

  • Unitary enterprises (companies)
  • Corporations
  • Partnerships
  • Holding companies
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Subsidiary companies
  • Limited liability companies

Problems (Contradictions)

The more complex the product and the underlying technology, the more operations should be performed for the product development, production and delivery to customers. The more operations should be performed, the larger the size of the company and the more diverse its activities.

For example, a modern car contains more than 10 thousand components and individual elements. The modern passenger airliner contains more than one million components and individual elements.

We face the following contradiction related to the size and structure of the company:

The company should be large and have a complex structure to perform a large number of diverse operations needed to develop, produce, and deliver a complex product to the customers.

The company should be small and have a simple structure in order to:

  • Reduce the variety and complexity of the company activities.
  • Focus on a small number of core operations.
  • Have a small stuff.
  • Minimize the costs of developing, producing, selling, and delivering products to customers.

solutions

An analysis of existing business models shows that the above contradiction could be solved by forming a business ecosystem that is a super-system for a separate company, and by transferring complexity to the super-system.

The following figure shows the typical business ecosystem structures that were identified in analyzing the existing business models:
