Product >>> Revenue Generation
Revenue generation in the business model determines how the company receives payment for the product from consumers.
Usually, the customer becomes the owner of the product after purchasing the product. This type of sale is called "Sale of assets."
The consumer can get a product (goods or services) with the "Subscription" scheme. Often the customer pays for the product (in whole or in part) in advance, gets the rights to receive the product in the future also in advance, and receives the product later (at a specific time).
The "Pay per use" scheme is widely used in the sale of services. The customer pays for using some assets. For example, a customer pays the mobile operator for the minutes of calls. The more time he uses, the more he pays for using the operator's services.
The customer can get the product with the "Rent instead of buy" scheme, i.e., without the transfer of rights in the product. For example, the user can receive the product on lease, on an installment plan, on credit, or on leasing. This scheme could be attractive to the customers, since it allows them to pay for the product for some extended period of time.
A special form of revenue generation is the "License" scheme. In this case, the customer/user pays and receives only the rights to create (to copy) the product. The customer must create the product himself.
The "Barter" scheme is a separate category. This scheme is used mainly in transactions between partners of the business system. In this case, one product with an equivalent cost is given as payment for another product.
The above schemes of revenue generation show that in different schemes the customer could pay for the product at different time periods:
5. An important characteristic of the "Revenue generation" parameter is associated with the product and its structure.
A complex product (a goods or services) could consist of separate components provided by different businesses. The consumer pays for the whole product, and then it is necessary to divide the revenue between the producers of the individual components of the product.
A similar situation occurs if the product is sold in parts and at different times. For example, some part of the product is sold now, and the other parts of the product will be sold in the future (for example, consumables or replacements). The special feature of this scheme is that all payment belongs to one business, but arrives at different times.
The payment for the product should be received as early as possible in order to have money to cover the costs.
The payment for the product should be received as late as possible in order to ensure convenience for the customers.
It is necessary to get payment for the own product in order to simplify the revenue generation scheme.
It is necessary to get payment for the product that is a part of a complex product in order to ensure convenience for the customers.
