Species: Malus domestica - Bramley's Seedling
Common names: Bramley, Bramley Apple, Bramley Samling, Triomphe de Kiel
A Cooking Apple
A triploid tree so requires 2 other varieties of apple for fertilisation
There are genetic differences between the original "seedling" and the modern commercial orchard trees.
Those few pips planted by a little girl, Mary Brailsford in her garden in Nottinghamshire 200 years ago are responsible for what is today a £37 million industry, with commercial growers across Kent, East Anglia and the West Midlands.
So why is it called Bramley and not Brailsford ?
