We originally did not know the name of this tree. Peter Millar a former Ranger did remember one of the trees was called Lord Clyde. This meant it could be one of the following trees
10 11 13 14 18 28 29 30 31 or 34
When they fruited, tree 29 seemed the best match
although just to confuse things there is another apple called Lord Clyde, its preferred name is Golden Noble. Even more confusing is in 2025 comparing apples at New Ferry Butterfly Park, our Lord Clyde did not look like their Lord Clyde. So ours looks more like Golden Noble.
many apple trees have numerous names and also many different varieties have been called the same name. For up to date naming we use The Nation Fruit Collection (NFC)
