It has an elongated bottle-like body, with a greenish-brown skin and white flesh, both of which turn to pale yellow with a slight pink tinge on ripening.
Its soft, smooth texture, and sweet taste, makes it suitable for poaching, baking, and roasting.
Bred by Thomas Francis Rivers of Sawbridgeworth. Named after winning 1st prize at the National British Pear Conference. Awarded a First Class Certificate from The Royal Horticultural Society in 1885.

The main stem will be cut just here and the side branch being held will be trained vertically. Wires will need fixing to the wall.
