We used https://www.insectidentification.org/ to identify our bee. This is a great site! You can narrow down your search into the state you are located in and then what sort of insect you are looking for. We could see our bee was a Common Eastern Bumble Bee because it had a furry abdomen and a yellow stripe under his wings. Carpenter bees do not have fuzzy abdomens!
We picked up our lazy bee and brought him into a bug enclosure with some flowers and sugar water (bee Gatorade!). We just kept him for a little while for observational purposes and then we let him free to return to his colony. These bumble bees are hardy and can be active in cooler temperatures than many insects, he might have just needed to warm up some with the day to regain his energy!
Our bees was being still and lazy. We worried he was not well! We made him a special bee drink: 2 tablespoons sugar.1 tablespoon water then mix.
