There are about 60 types of deer located all around the world. One species of deer is the white-tailed deer. White-tailed deer's bionical/scientific name is Odocoileus virginianus. Over all, white-tailed deer are not an endangered species. They are actually listed as a species of least concern. Fawns or baby deer are born in spring. The fawns usually weigh 6-8 pounds at birth. For about 4 months the fawn will still nurse from his/her mother, but after only 2 weeks they will begin eating small amounts of an adults diet. While the mother leaves her fawn she hides them in tall grasses or hidden amongst forest brush. The mother will then return to her fawn later. If you do see a newborn fawn, leave it and let the mother come back on her own accord. After about a year, the new adults leave their mother. Some times females will continue to live near their mothers.
