Vivien Qiao

Hi everyone! My name is Vivien and I am a senior double majoring in Biochemistry and Engineering Arts. I'm passionate about novel targeted therapeutics for cancer and hope to work in the field as a physician-scientist. I joined the Moore Lab in the spring of 2021. Currently, I am writing an honors thesis project that has three major components: 1) production and purification of Fn3 variants with a cys-tag, 2) fluorophore labeling and characterization of cell binding, and 3) establishment of mesothelin-positive tumor spheroids to characterize protein transport. Working in the Moore Lab has fueled my interest in research and my love for working with a group of diverse, supportive, and passionate peers.

Outside of classes, I am the president of the Society of Women Engineers chapter at Smith and a fellow at the Jandon Center for Community Engagement. I love engaging with the local community and working with kids to foster their interests in the STEM field. When I get the chance, I enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, taking outdoor walks, and binge-watching all sorts of tv shows. I’m a big foodie so I also love trying new restaurants in the area.
