Class of 2021

Major: Engineering Science

Hi! My name is Jessica and I am an Engineering Science major. I work in the S'Moore lab engineering proteins to conjugate to drug carrying polymers for cancer and disease treatment. I love being apart of the S'Moore lab and having Sarah as an advisor. The lab offers a community and support system for young researchers of different research backgrounds and disciplines. I have gained the opportunity to do research with future chemists, neuroscientists, physicians, and engineers.

Smith's general engineering program offers the opportunity to apply engineering skills across various disciplines. In lab I have applied my skills to biology and chemistry to enhance my knowledge of biomedical engineering while gaining research skills that I have applied at various summer research programs.

In addition to conducting research in the S'Moore lab, I am a cohort ambassador and mentor for the AEMES scholar program which aims to increase minority representation in research, and I have served various executive board positions for the Black Students Alliance.

Lastly, I love traveling, exploring different cafés and restaurants (I highly recommend the ginger chai at Woodstar Café) , doing CrossFit and weightlifting, and spending time with my friends and family during my free time.
