Margherita Piccardi

Hi, I’m Margherita! I am from Italy and I am a PhD student at the University of Pisa and the University of Siena. I joined the Moore Lab on September 2022 and I’ll be here for one year as a full-time researcher! My PhD project is focused on mesothelin as a biomarker and therapeutic target in malignant pleural mesothelioma. I am currently working on engineering non-antibody scaffolds to bind mesothelin to develop a new theranostic approach against mesothelioma. In addition to my main interest in cancer biology, I am also passionate about evolutionary biology and the genetics behind evolution.

This is my first time in the US and I am excited to spend one year at Smith College! Outside of the lab, I am glad to take part in the Italian Department and Club events and to know many Smith’s students that want to learn Italian. I also like hiking, cooking, and gardening!
