Hi, I’m Daniela! I am a senior Biochemistry and Africana Studies double major and I am on the Mesothelin Project. Within the Moore Lab, I have been working on developing in vitro assays for the therapeutic characterization of our engineered proteins.
As a Biochemistry major, I have been exploring drug design, synthetic biology, and more specifically, protein engineering. I am passionate about increasing diversity and accessibility in STEM, and the power of collaboration. Driving these passions are my roles as a mentor leader for the Achieving Excellence in Math, Engineering, and Sciences (AEMES) Peer Mentoring Program, and as a student representative on the Science Center Committee on Diversity (SCCD).
As an Africana Studies major, my focus has been on Black Women’s Studies, and more specifically, their health. I have spent the past years grappling with the complicated history that black women have had with medicine using both a literary and sociological lens.
I am a Howard Hughes Medical Institute EXROP 2017 Scholar, a McKinley Honors Fellow, and a BOLD Women’s Leadership Network Scholar.
When I am not in lab, I like to spend my time dancing, singing, and having meaningful conversations with friends and family.
