4 am - Mom is up to pee, she drinks all her water and gets up to go to the kitchen to refill her glass.
4 am - Mom is up to pee, she drinks all her water and gets up to go to the kitchen to refill her glass.
4 am - I wake up and can hear Mom moving on her bed, then I hear the sucking sound from her straw in the empty water glass. I get up and refill her water glass and empty the commode.
6:30 am - I wake up when I hear Matt come in to make his morning coffee. I get my breakfast and read the news.
7 am - Mom is awake, softly singing in her bed.
7 am - I fetch Mom her dentures and a cup of tea, reminding her the Home Support caregiver will be here at 8 am to giver her sponge bath and help her get dressed.
I make my cup of coffee.
7:45 am - Mom decides it is time to get dressed, she has forgotten the caregiver is coming at 8, she is determined to get dressed RIGHT NOW
As she settles down for her orange juice she says to me, "You have a brave, brave heart!"
7:45 am - I suggest Mom have some orange juice in bed and wait for the caregiver. She agrees and climbs back into bed. I make up her orange juice with 1/2 a dose of PEG.
8 am - Melody arrives to give Mom her sponge bath, Mom is singing as she comes in; I overhear Mom in the bathroom telling Melody her birthday is on November 1 and she will be 92 years old.
8 am - I have received a Google notification about an old email being used by someone on an iPhone - I am figuring out how to either remove that email or remove my email from being attached to it.
I also make my bed and pull out Mom's morning medications for Sally.
8:30 am - Sally arrives. Mom is in her big chair, up for breakfast for the first time since Saturday. She is walking verrry slowly and carefully.
8:30 am - I get packed to go upstairs, I am still in my pyjamas.
8:45 am - Upstairs I check to see if my brother is home. He is not well, not getting treatment for his alcoholism. He is also a smoker and I can smell smoke as I open the back door. His bedroom door is shut, I can't tell if he has been smoking in his room or if he smoked on the back porch and some of the air got trapped when he came inside. I leave the back door open to let fresh air in and go upstairs for my bath.
In the bath I am ruminating about my brother and the risk my household is carrying having him stay here. He is an untreated alcoholic and a smoker. I'm pretty sure his residency on the property would have an impact on our insurance rates. Probably because of the smoking. The rule is there is no smoking inside the house, we have set up a smoking area on the back porch. However, I cannot take on any kind of policing role to make sure he follows that rule. I am going to have to talk to him.
9 am - I am at my desk, a little paranoid about security of my various accounts online. This year I had to shut down my consulting business because I was no longer able to find new clients after I finished work with my last employer due to the demands on my time and energy looking after Mom. I spent half an hour sorting out my pro plan for Zoom account - getting it switched over to my personal email from my business email. I started the process of shutting down the Google account for my business. I shut down the Paypal account for my business.
10 am - Took the dogs out for their morning walk. With Sally looking after Mom we can go for an extended walk, which is good for all of us. It is a cool morning and my 12 year old is feeling good enough to manage a light jog. We had a really nice slow run around the neighbourhood.
11 am - Coffee time and a game to take my mind off things, then catching up on writing up this report.
